Yep. You nailed it. My initial calculations had it at 42.5 also. When in doubt, call your AHJ!

Interesting, because it will fit in a single gang box, as the yoke and width will allow it, but it would be a heck of a deep box for wire fill! So I would say he is incorrect in calling it as a double device for fill.

You’re right, it’s definitely a very gray area. The way I look at it, I don’t want any trouble. Only want to do the job and get paid. I figure the inspector has the last word so…
