there's a certain house in town i've passed by for years and thought, "i hope they call me some day for service."
it happened today!
i don't have pictures, as i felt it inappropriate to walk around a customer's house taking pics.
the house has a design that really stands out though; built into the side of a hill overlooking a beautiful lake.
i was there to give a quote on wiring for an electric instant-hot water heater. i was poking around to see if there was any attic space to run my wiring. the customer said, "would the drawings help?"
i thought "no" but just for curiosity's sake i said yes. she had the original plans from the architect when the house was built in 1976. they were fragile but interesting. at least 25 pages and every detail of the house was in these plans. even the routing for all of the wiring, plumbing, and hvac ducts was detailed.
every original fixture part number was listed including their respective loads.
it had a 400A CT metered service connected to a QON panelboard; cb's were QOB's. first time i've seen that in a house.
also detailed in the drawings was the solar panels for the roof installed when it was built. they were long gone though; original owner took them to their next residence but from what i saw in the drawings, the rear of the house was completely covered in solar panels; probably 2k'/sq.
i was obviously excited to be there and the homeowner, completely flattered, gave me the history of the house and a tour. i put off giving the quote until i'd seen all of it; as i suspected they were pretty bummed about the cost, but the heater is already there.
anyhow, just wanted to share my happy day.
