Every Sconce Light install ever is WRONG?

Ssshhhh. the inspector is reading and might take you literally and now wants them all removed. lol

I still see that as a code violation...the circuit EGC is required to connect to the metal box in the wall.

From what I gathered, it was connected to the box, the fixture ground wire was just looped on the ground screw of the mounting plate before tying to the circuit EGC. Or did I misread it?

Yes. You are correct.

1 ground pigtail connected to the box and 1 ground pigtail connected to the mounting plate. 2 pigtails connected underneath a wire nut with the EGC which is attached to the luminaire and the ground from the MC cable.

The only connections required by the code would be the circuit EGC to the box and the bonding conductor from the light. The conductor from the light could connect to the mounting plate, the circuit EGC or the box. No wire connection to the mounting plate is required by the code.

I agree since the grounded box is metal. That's what the inspector should be inspecting.
