I did a Google search on ?Ex battery.? It could either be a model number for certain types of batteries with a fairly broad range of applications depending on the manufacturer; or, more likely, a reference to certain IEC type applications.

I?d need to know the context.

I found several Ex battery boxes in my previously mentioned Google search too. Unfortunately, none of them are acceptable for US domestic use - simply because they are not "marked" correctly.

"Ex" or "EEx" are not acceptable markings. They must be marked "AEx." See Section 505.9(C)(2)(3). The "A" means they have been evaluated under an ISA Standard.
