When must an exam light be on critical power?

If the exam room is in a hospital?

Or is it never explicitely required by the code?

I'd like to clarify

I'd like to clarify

517.33 requires that task illumination be on critical power correct.

And 517.33 is in section III of that Article which includes "medical offices". Does it therefor not follow that all exam lights in medical office buildings shouldbe on the critical branch.

I'm assuming this is not the case since I never see a critical branch in medical office buildings?

Thanks,

Mike

See the first sentance of 517.30(A), specifically where is says for "hospitals". Then 517.40(A) and (B) are similar for nursing homes.

But 517.45 (B) and (C) are what you really want. They tell you exactly when a "other" facility needs an essential emergency system. Although 517.19(A) will also require an emergency system if there is a critical care area designated.

There are also fine print notes that say to refer to NFPA 99.
