If you are referring to the '05 nec I would take a look at ex.#2 under art.517.13.

read the definition of Patient Vicinity in the front of Art.517 and go back and read ex. #2 of 517.13 and you will have your answer on the exam room.

My 2 cents: For most of the exam rooms I've seen, the switches would still be within 6' of the exam table, so hospital grade AC would still be required.

Are you seeing this differently?
