Exhaust Fan

Panasonic whisper green select or comparable is what you need , there’s also multiple manufacturers that make switches that will run the fan for 15,20,30 min every hour to accomplish the energy rating needed , it’s a energy/building code not electrical
Exactly what I was thinking.
These have been required in the past from the HERS inspector. I believe because the houses are so air tight.

Never seen in a residential application but have seen in commercial construction a vent fan that will operate at a low speed continuously and with occupancy it will step up to full for a period and then auto back to low when no longer occupied.

A friend of mine brought an apartment and it has a washer and dryer in the same room as a toilet and shower. A inspector told him that the exhaust fan has to be hard wired because if not there will be moisture problem. I never came this and can’t find anything in the code to support this. Has anyone come across this , if so where in the code does it address this.
For many years the houses built near me from the 1930 to late 1960's bathrooms all had skylights and did not require a fan. When I had my bathroom remodeled I installed a quality exhaust fan and had the sky light replaced with a bubble skylight that needs a pain to use 8' long pole to open & close. Older houses down the Jersey shore only had a window for bathroom ventilation so they had mold build up until they installed exhaust fans with either timers or better yet humidity sensor to turn on fans. Of course when I called my supply house they said they stock two quality bathroom exhaust fans with humidity sensors but when I went to purchase one both were out of stock so used a timer and set for 40 minutes before turning on shower. That & running my central AC all summer prevents mold. Doubt if any electrical codes cover thus but like another poster stated could be a building code law.
