Exhaust/Light/Heater Combo in Shower Area

If a exhaust fan/light/heater combo is connected to GFCI in a bathroom, can in be located within the restricted shower area as long as it is rated for damp areas? I had someone tell me it can't be located within three feet horizontally of the tub area, but I have not found that to be the case in the NEC. I only see that the restricted area for lighting must be rated for damp areas and protected by GFCI. I couldn't find if the heating/exhaust element would change the circumstances.

Not sure about one with a heater, but some of the fans only & fan/light combo say they are rated/listed to be over the shower if protected by a GFCI. Can't imagine one with a heater would be any different if it lists that in their instructions.
Your answer is in the instructions. NEC only addresses this if instructions are not followed.
 
All of the Nutone, Broan and Panasonic units with heaters I have installed have stated they are NOT listed for use over tubs/showers. Only the Fans and Fan/Lights are listed if they are GFCI protected.

And most people want the heater outside the shower to stand under when drying off, if you get cold while in the shower you really need to adjust the water temperature.

My mistake was thinking of unit without heat.
Never installed one over a tub or shower before so never gave much thought.

Best way I've found rather than getting an email about every thread I've posted in is to just use "quick links" button/icon at the top of the page. Click on that and go to "subscribed threads", if a reply has been made since the last time you checked it will be in bold, showing that it is unread. Of course, you have to reload the page or have posted somewhere for the list to renew.

That is what I do. If I had email notifications with the amount of participation I take on - my emails would be mostly from here.
