exit signs

I have a question regarding exit signs. It is my understanding that exit signs should provide the fastest means of egress and should not lead a person into the building. Where can I find more information on the topic. Thank you.

You will find the requirements for exit signs in the International Building Code. Our area is under the 2003 edition. It would be in the Uniform Building Code 1997 and earlier. In the IBC, it can be found in Section 1011.

Justin, not down playing wweb's post, but not all areas are under the IBC, this leaves NFPA 101, (Life Safety Code) which also covers this.
