exothermic ( thermite ) welding

Cad-welding in the rain? Only done it ONCE. Things to add to the list of PPE - (and probably not OSHA approved) weed-burner torch with a rose bud tip for dryer, and a shovel to hold the top of the mold down. If it does blow, it shoots the 2300 degree magnesium burn out the front of the shovel (facing down) that you place on top of the mold. We lost 1 in 5 shots,and they were only #300's!

Wouldn't do it again though (Early 90's).
 
Welding in the rain - inspite of "instructions" - is usually something a fool only does once ;)
 
Ahem...the instructions were either do it, or hit the road. Now I'd just hit the road and a phone call to OSHA. Life is to short to deal with idiots, dumb I can handle, idiots...not anymore.
 
Sometimes, you have to make do with "field conditions". When working on a RR, it's always in the field ;) ...usually in the middle of nowhere w/o so much as a tree to block the sun, wind, rain, snow, etc.
