The motor is situated at the base of a bulk storage tank which holds motor oil. The pump is used to fill portable plastic tanks and tubs which are then loaded on a truck. The motor is about 6" off the floor.

I'm leaning towards a TEFC motor with liquidtight to condulet, with start stop station located in front of pump (at loading area ) in a nema 12 box.

Any comments?

Thanks.

while it would be safe to error on the side of caution and use explosion proof equipment, i dont think that motor oil is considered a volitile liquid. i belive the flash point is wahat the criteria is for volitile liquids, what you'll need to do is check the MSDS sheet for the oil and see what the flash point is and go from there.

What else occurs in the space where the tank in question is in. It's not in a service bay in a garage where repairs or done, or anything like that, is it?

Thanks

Brett

Vehicles back into the bay and large "totes" are unloaded with a forklift and placed in front of the pumping station where they are filled. This is not a maintenance shop. Strictly a storage area for bulk oil.

If the tank is in a diked area and the motor/pump is in the diked area, you should try to have the pump installed higher than the dike. If the dike ever floods, you might save a pump/motor.

If you don't have a gas tank in the area, and you are not in a commercial garage, I don't see why you would need an x-proof motor for this application.
