Explosion Proof Panels

I have junction boxes that will be located in a class 1 div 2 area. If all that will be in these junction boxes are terminal strips, is a explosion proof panel and conduit seals still required in the hazardous area?

If I understand your question correctly, I don't believe you need XP enclosures.

I think you still need boundary seals where the div 2 area changes to unclassified. i don't recall that they have to be within the classified area though. They can be on either side of the line between the div 2 area and the unclassified area. There are some rules about what kind of fittings can be in the conduit between the boundary and where the seal actually is. i think there may be a limit to how far from the boundary the seal can be as well.

Section 501.10(B)(4):

Boxes and Fittings. Boxes and fittings shall not be required to be explosionproof except as required by 501.105(B)(1), 501.115(B)(1), and 501.150(B)(1).

Basically, if the contents aren't arcing, sparking, or high temperature (ASH) under design conditions, the enclosure isn't required to be explosionproof. Of course, it must still be suitable for the environment.

rb, you consider boxes and fittings to include enclosures/junction boxes, conduit fittings, and cable glands correct?

Enclosure and fitting are defined terms in Article 100. Enclosure is fairly general. See its definition's FPN/IN, especially to Article 110 Tables.
