I have three motors all of which are 3ph 460 volt 60hz.
Two 24 volt DC level switchs.
The question is it legal to run them all to the same Nema 7 junction box each in there own conduit.
Dennis

Thanks for your responses here is a little more information. The junction box does contain a terminal strip and the 24 volt conductors are seperated from the 460 volt conductors. The customer is going to connect from the junction box to his contol panel the area is class 1 division 2.
I have no reason to think this is not legal but my supervisor questioned this installation and I was unable to find anything in the NEC that stated it was not legal.
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: Expolsion Proof junction box

Please forgive me, but I'm having a hard time picturing your situation. There seems to be some information lacking.

Is there some reason you would believe the installation would not be "legal?"

Re: Expolsion Proof junction box

I think as long as the insulation on all of the conductors are rated the same & you properly identify the diffrent voltages on the conductors you should be OK. Art.300.3(C)(1).

Re: Expolsion Proof junction box

As long as the insulation rating of all the conductors exceeds the highest voltage, I seem to recall you don't even have to run them in seperate conduits. Not that I suggest doing so.

OTOH, its possible the 24V circuits might be power limited, which would be another story.

<added> or even intrinsically safe? A big different story.

So far, everyone else has speculated about the problem, that's why we need more info.
