Ok while I am on a roll. If you are doing lighting/power in a few rooms that have exposed slab ceilings(existing constructions) and block walls how is the piping run to other rooms though the walls...more so for the lighting? Penetrations through the walls @ the ceiling height?? These(if that how you would run conduit to different spaces) would not be cores I assume as that only takes place through slabs? How would you penetrate a block wall? THanks

I would use a hammer drill. Measure & drill from both sides to prevent blowout.

Or you could drill thru the wall with a small percussion bit & the go back with the

big one.

I think you will have to hammer drill down at least a few inches from the ceiling and offset your conduit. The top course may be solid bond beam. I think I'd offest down to the second, ungrouted course for ease of pentetration.

Ok just curious. What if it was NEW construction with exposed slab ceilings and CMU( block) walls. Would penetrations still be needed. I can't see why not. Still need to get through the wall. Maybe you can have the Cm/gc responsible for them but I doubt it. Thanks

In new construction you could get in underground pretty easily. Just jump from one unit to the next and land just outside the walls.

It's possible to get conduit and boxes in the formed ceiling also. That would tie the rooms together and you could use extension boxes to get pipe to the units.

Back to the existing construction, instead of trying to go thru the walls at the ceilings, just go thru at switch or receptacle height. It's more pipe and wire but a lot easier than drilling up high.
