Hello,

What are coverage requirements for fire alarm coverage notification devices horn/strobe type for exterior location in a apartment. Typically, for devices inside room..... for example a 75 candela fire alarm visible device has a maximum room coverage of 44x44' per nfpa 72 chapter 18. What is the requirements for exterior locations?

Attached is an example: of an apartment building and an exterior hallway (2nd floor in this case). Are the exterior notification devices need to be 22' from each other (rated 75 candela in this case)? or it is only required by the exterior stairs and the egress exit?

In my attachment, i show a fire alarm device in the middle of the hallway. To be specific, is that device required in this case?

Thank you

Rather than thinking of it as exterior (which I don't think changes anything as compared to interior), but NFPA 72 Section 18.5.5.6 covers spacing in corridors. <20' wide, it would get 15cd strobes 15' from the end of the corridor and 100' between max
