Looking for pros and cons of mounting my main electrical panel on an exterior wall. This is a renovation and the electric is currently in use, via a temporary panel. I need to disconnect my temporary panel and install a new, and permanent panel due to the renovation. My original plan was to install the new panel in my basement directly behind the wall where the overhead mast is attached, however, due to limited space and plumbing components such as a pressure tank, water softer system and water lines, I am considering installing the new panel on the exterior wall . The new panel location is in close proximity to the temporary panel, so the change over will be easier to relocate the branch circuits.
I've seen panels installed on the exterior wall of a single family dwelling in southern states, but that is not common practice in Iowa, where I'm from, my concern is the the panel being exposed to direct sunlight in the summer, and extreme cold in the Winter.
