It would make sense to have a spot in "My Profile" to post a link to a small picture or graphic.

Additionally, it would be nice in "My Profile" to have some room for some extra details.

I would also like to be able to "anonymize" my email address. Posting it here is an invitation to spammers. My spam has gone up 10-fold since in the few weeks I have started posting here (with my email address "exposed to all viewers").

Here is how email anonymize would work:
Let's say charlieb is
charlieb @ aol.com (without the spaces).
His anon email address would be something like:
anon-charlieb @ mikeholt.com (without the spaces).
Mike Holt would create an email address anonymizer so we can communicate with each other without our email address being "harvested" by email address harvesters. FYI: I tested an email harvester by pointing it at mikeholt.com and it harvested over 40,000 email addresses before I shut it off and deleted the fruits of the harvest. It harvested that many because I told it to go "five layers deep" meaning if you make a post with a web link, it will go to that web link and look for addresses, and just keep spreading out until it gets to the fifth layer of links. I probably could have harvested 100,000 email addresses this way is just a few hours. These harvesters can harvest millions of email addresses if you address is posted online without being "munged". I would like to see munged (actually anonymized) email addresses posted on this forum. Otherwise we are adding to the spam and virus email database. It's not rocket science. Spam & viruses are getting out of control by adding sand and mollassses to our Internet enjoyment.

When you first signed up with the Mike Holt Code Forum you would be able to input your true email address and Mike Holt would assign a munged one to you.

TIP: If you want to post your email address here always mung (or munge) it somehow that can be easily un-munged. Here are a couple of ways to mung your email address if posting in a public forum:

Use spaces:
charlieb @ aol.com (Note: please remove the spaces).

Spell it out phonetically:
charlieb [at] aol [dot] [com]

If you want to get tricky you can use an HTML tag like <a href=mailto:
and just use
charlieb
as the "anchor" text.
In the HTML tag ENCODE your email address with Unicode or other code. You can read more about encoding your email address at: RobertGraham.com email encoder tips

In 2-bit Unicode
charlieb @ aol.com (encoded without the spaces)
becomes:
%63%68%61%72%6C%69%65%62%40%61%6F%6C%2E%63%6F%6D
Which any web browser can properly decode in an HTML mailto: tag to:
charlieb @ aol.com (will be decoded without the spaces).

Posting your email address online without munging is no longer acceptable behavior. It leads to spam & virus distribution. If you have any questions, please post back and I will try to clarify this rant :)

Re: Face to name

Bennie,
I figured you to be over weight and bald. But people never look like what I have them pictured as. I'm a ham radio operator also and I talk to a lot of people that I sometime meet. And they never look like what I thought.
Anyway nice to put a face with the post. I'm not far behind you in the trade. And yes to all we have seen a lot of changes. And I also threaded pipe with hand dies, and used a brace and bit to drill holes in wood, and used a star drill in concrete.
We have come a long way.

Re: Face to name

Roger: I weigh the same as I did 50 years ago when I was discharged from the Marine Corp, 155 lbs. Hair is thin but I still need hair cuts.

I started in ham radio during the days of AM. It was not uncommon to call CQ for a few days before making contact with anyone, and then tuning the entire band to find them.(Rock bound).

In my youth, I was a friend and acquantance with Don Stoner, W6TNS. He was one of the creators of SSB transmission, and mechanical filters.

I worked with the father of Dr.Owen Garriott, who operated a ham radio from space on the shuttle.

My licenses were WA7ISB, KJ6CB, and KX6BQ.
