Hello everyone,

I am fairly new in the field of facilities electrical engineering and do not really have a mentor to work under. I am looking for good resources that I could get some useful applicable information. Basically I'm looking to find information on it all (lighting, fuses, motors, arc flash, generators, etc.). I would be interested in forums (such as this great one), books, professional organizations, anything would be of help.

Thank you all.

I believe that it's always good to ask questions and to seek knowledge. A surprising number of manufacturers have good resources on their websites.

Here's a link for some good information on Electrical distribution equipment.

This might help you with lighting. I'm not sure what's a good way to learn about lighting other than experience.

And this can give you some estimates for arc flash energy at panels. If you're interested in learning more then this might help.

These should keep you busy for a few weeks at least.

Join IEEE and buy the IEEE Color Book Series. These are ANSI/IEEE standards that will give you a good background in the technical calculations.

The basic is the Gray Book "IEEE Recommended Practice for Electric Power Systems in Commercial Buildings" ANSI/IEEE Standard 241.

Another good one is the Red Book "IEEE Recommended Practice for Electric power Distribution for Industrial Plants"

The local university library may have these books.

I would also get a copy of the American Electrician?s Handbook. It has more practical information that you will need.

This forum and other electrical engineering forums can be a virtual mentor for you. Other posters will have to give you advice on how to design receptacle and lighting systems. I learned from reading trade magazines like EC&M and talking to electricians.

Welcome and good luck.
