I have a job at a Saturn car dealership. They speced 12 LED wall washer lights on the outside of the building to highligt some architectural features. I purchased the speced and approved lights however the controllers (drivers) must be installed within 30' of the fixtures. The only place to put them is above a drop cieling. The controllers have a power cord connection exactly like a computer. Is there a code against me enclosing the controllers in individual trough's with either a cord and plug connection or cut the cord end and splice in the trough's.

No cords above a drop ceiling. 400.8, Can you call the manufacture and get a hard wired controller?

Unfortunately, you have a situation where the manufacturer may not have accounted for your type of installation.
The way you have outlined for installation would be a violation of the NEC and possibly the listing as well.
My advice is to see if the Architect and property owner would allow for a design of a small closet to house your apparatus. This would alleviate the issues and help keep the installation asthetic as well.

Maybe build a cabinet, such as an overhead cabinet for kitchens in the necessary location instead of a full length closet.

Welcome back!

To the OP, there are several solutions that could work, however, it would be up to the GC and Owner to pay for them. Good luck!

Do these controllers need to have a serviceable disconnect?
If so, having a receptacle above the T-bar ceiling with a cord and plug controller would serve this need, no, yes?

I'd just remove the cord. Put a MC whip in it's place to a metal box with a toggle switch. Might violate the UL listing though.. I'm not sure you'd want to mount the controllers in a enclosed cabinent. There might be some heat generated that would need to be considered. Perhaps if there was adequate ventilation?
