hi everyone
i was looking for some input on a fan light combo. I would like to place the fan light combo over the combo tub shower area ,when i looked in the guts of the fan it said this was okay as long as it was on a gfi is this acceptable ???

also is there any switching requirments

and 1 last question this bathroom was done many years ago and only has a 14 guage ( 15 amp ) wire feeding it is that exceptable or should i run a new 12/2 circuit ???

many thanks to all of you these sites are such a help

It would be helpful if it were switched. :D If you are renovating the bathroom it would be required that it have a 20 circuit to it, that does not limit you to just one circuit though you could leave the 15 amp circuit for the lighting if you wanted. I would consider removing it if it is that old and/or knob and tube that maybe deteriorated. If it is in good shape all you would need to do is get the gfi protection on it. Personally I don't like the fan right over the shower as it makes the shower get cold , but that is just a design issue not a code issue.

No, however it is nice to switch the fan separate from the light.

14 gauge is fine for lighting.
