Are there any FEMA codes that you must follow when wiring a home in a flood zone or are they just some guidelines you can follow? Who has the authority to inspect the electrical work-local or state? Whose responsiblity is it architech. engineer, or local electrical inspector? I was given a blue print that had no codes applied to it for a flood zone. Is there something in writing that I can get that explains all of these requirements and the electrical contractor's responsibilities? House has already been completed, final inspected (passed completely) and issued a certificate of completion. Now the owners are trying to saw that we did not follow the proper electrical guidelines for being in a flood zone.

I see you are in Florida?

If so, get yourself a copy of the FEMA 499, the ASCE / SEI 24-05, the SSTD 10-99, and the 00 FEMA 55.

The FEMA manuals must be obtained from FEMA, but are FREE! The others are available from ICC...
