Filters for AFCI Nuisance Tripping

Pete, need I remind you that our friends at NEMA have told us time and time again that any problems with AFCIs have to do with the installation and the lack of educated installers.
I think it is more like a lack of engineers who know how to design things that work in the real world.

I've told this story before but it's relevant to the topic at hand. I had a situation where a brand new dishwasher (high end, over $1000) was regularly tripping a QO dual function breaker. It was a high end kitchen so removing and replacing the dishwasher was not an option. I removed the DF breaker and replaced it with a regular GFCI breaker. The nuisance tripping stopped completely, proving it was some sort of interference created by the electronics in the dishwasher causing the problem. I feel completely comfortable doing this. The circuit still has GFCI protection at the branch circuit origin, and GFCI protection provides superior protection of the branch circuit, more than an AFCI could.

When I had an issue years ago Ge sent me ferrite chokes that just snap around the wire. We have not had issues with afci for many years and when we did it was for a short time. Knock on wood... You can't use these on circuits with dimmers
