I've told this story before but it's relevant to the topic at hand. I had a situation where a brand new dishwasher (high end, over $1000) was regularly tripping a QO dual function breaker. It was a high end kitchen so removing and replacing the dishwasher was not an option. I removed the DF breaker and replaced it with a regular GFCI breaker. The nuisance tripping stopped completely, proving it was some sort of interference created by the electronics in the dishwasher causing the problem. I feel completely comfortable doing this. The circuit still has GFCI protection at the branch circuit origin, and GFCI protection provides superior protection of the branch circuit, more than an AFCI could.
