If it's considered auxiliary signaling or notification and it can't negatively affect the panel operation, it would be permitted IMO. The AHJ's reaction may be to red-flag it, but unless he/she can make the case that it would impair the operation of the panel or occupant notification, you could make a good case that it can stay. Something like that, on the other hand, is likely being required by the AHJ.

Auxiliary- but can't be main- correct?

AND, from what I remember it has to be approved by the Board of Standards and Appeals.
