It's because the heat resistant/non-flammable property that it it gets used for fire alarm systems here.

The fire alarm system is installed to warn occupants of the danger, and hopefully does so before conditions get bad enough the power supply to the FA system is compromised. If it doesn't indicate a danger before then it didn't really serve it's intended purpose. Plus the systems typically have battery backup, though that source may not have the power to sustain operating alarm devices for very long.
