Re: Fire Alarm Question

Yes. NEC 760.52(B)(3). I am making the assumption that these are power limited cables.

However, check with your fire marshall and local codes, as fire alarm requirements vary drastically from state to state.

Re: Fire Alarm Question

760.52(B)(3) Exception:

As Provided for in 620.21 for elevators and similar equipment.

620.21(A)(1)(b)

Cables used in Class 2 power-limited circuits shallbe permitted to be installed between risers and signal equipment and operating devices, provided the cables are supported and protected from physical damage and are of a jacketed and flame-retardent type.

I'm not saying that this proves my point, but doesn't the code make it sound like it is legal?

Tony still

Re: Fire Alarm Question

methinks this dependent on a number of factors, one being shaft construction, i.e.- of 'combustible' wood frame & sheetrock vs. cement block....

that might be a 101 call...

it is my understanding that a heat set 20 deg lower than a sprinkler head @ the shaft top permits the car to be recalled before being drenched

but that's also controversial due to the firemans override, shunt tripping the motor out, and the many elevator committees from state to state...

stairs start looking a whole lot better once one really digs into this one....
