"You cannot run fire alarm conductors in the same raceway as communications, security, etc."

Most people involved in the fire alarm industry will support this but I cannot find in NEC where it specifically says that fire alarm conductors for SLC, NA, Aux power, etc (all power limited circuits) cannot be run within the same raceway as other systems or communications. Guide me, NEC gurus....

Thank you.

Take a look at 760.136 in the 2008 NEC or 760.55 in the 2005 NEC for separation requirements for power limited fire alarm circuit conductors.

Chris

I should add, that section 760.139 (2008) deals with separation from different PLFA circuits, communication circuits ect...

This would be section 760.56 in the 2005 NEC.

Chris

760.136(A) includes power limited fire alarm circuit cables and conductors.

Chris

OK, how about this:

760.56 Installation of Conductors of Different PLFA Circuits, Class 2, Class 3, and Communications Circuits in the Same Cable, Enclosure, or Raceway.
(A) Two or More PLFA Circuits.
Cable and conductors of two or more power-limited fire alarm circuits, communications circuits, or Class 3 circuits shall be permitted within the same cable, enclosure, or raceway.
(B) Class 2 Circuits with PLFA Circuits.
Conductors of one or more Class 2 circuits shall be permitted within the same cable, enclosure, or raceway with conductors of power-limited fire alarm circuits, provided that the insulation of the Class 2 circuit conductors in the cable, enclosure, or
raceway is at least that required by the power-limited fire alarm circuits.
(C) Low-Power Network-Powered Broadband Communications Cables and PLFA Cables.
Low-power network-powered broadband communications circuits shall be permitted in the same enclosure or raceway with PLFA cables.

This is all the 2005 NEC, which is current for New Jersey.

That is correct, I never said that you could not install PLFA cables with other PLFA cables or communication cables.

I just pointed the OPer to the code sections that deal with seperation of PLFA cables.

My bad. My eyes skipped over the "other systems" part and settled on "or communications".
