Fire caulking

was informed today that new standard of fire caulk certification is to start Jan. 2007. state by state. Luisianna is first on list. took the certification tests today. word is that improper fire caulking will now be a felony charge if done purposely. hence certification. this is becoming a money scam if you ask me. NFPA is backing this.

Do you have a link to whatever it is that Louisiana requires? I'm curious on account of most of the wires I pull are in Katrina Land.

Almost every employee in our shop is certified (or is that certifiable?.. lol) for firecaulking. It is a fairly informal thing to get accomplished. Call your local 3M or Hilti rep and they will provide the training fee of cost. All they really want is to sell you their product. They explained to all the guys how to use their literature to identify the proper fire rated assembly/fire stopping methods. It was actually one of the more interesting "trainings" I have been involved in.
