So Brother - what part of the HVAC system was this fire damper on???? You realize that they will have separate systems much the way we do?

I do not know, and who is the 'we' ??
If you don't know what part of the HVAC or what the damper is for - why do you insist that is must be powered by the critical or life safety branch circ's?????? The damper needs only be open IF that air handling (Tin banger) system or part of that (Tin banging/HAVC) system needs to be operational - handling air.....

Us/we???

I=me

you=you

This is an 'electrical forum', typically "WE" = in this context means 'electricians'. In this context a "tin banger" would be "THEM" the HVAC trade - get it? Unless you do not consider yourself part of 'we'????

Fire dampers are associated/controled with the 'fire alarm', and the fire alarm is required to be powered by the emergency/life safety branch. NEC 2005 517.32 (C)(1) Fire alarms.

Fire alarm systems also control roof top units, elevators, lighting, door holders, sometimes kitchen equipment.

That does not mean those items become fire alarm systems

Being part of the 'hvac' is not the issue, its part of the fire alarm system is the issue. I thought I made that plain. ;) ok, 'so' we are the electricians. just when you type some of your comments dont seem too clear to me. but thanks for responding. ;)

A fire damper is not part of the FA system - and depending on the type, and it's position, may not even need to be 'monitored' by, or 'controlled' by it. It could just be a fire wall penetration on a fart fan.
