Here is a situation I encountered a fwe days ago where a wall thermostat (Cadet model C2002, UL 5C86)used for electric heaters cought fire in the middle of the night. Luckily the owner was able to put it out. It was 240V rated for 22A max with some electronics inside for programming. Total load on it was around 18A. I replaced it with a Honywell double pole and "no electronics" and reduced the load to be bwlow 16A on a 20A circuit. I believe that the short was caused by the electronic circuitry. I just wanted to put the word out wandering if anybody had similar experiences.
