fire proofing a recessed light

When installing recessed lights in a sheetrocked fire rated ceiling, can the recessed light be wrapped with fire padding instead of boxing it out with sheetrock?

yeah i have seen these and they are about $70 each at my supply house and can't be easily used on remodel cans. Doesn't fire pad accomplish the same thing? and much easier to use.

How many pads will you need and how much do they cost, don't forget to add the time it takes to install them. Might still cost less but maybe not as much less as you might suspect.

I don't think you can use a remodel can in a rated lid. The instructions for a fire rated assembly say that the box has to be securely attached to the struture.

I put in about 60 of those in a job a couple of years ago. Seemed to go pretty easy to me.
