We are wiring a fire pump at a Hospice. The building has a generator that backs up the entire service. We installed a seperate service from the utility to the pump controller. I am considering the utility company as a reliable source of power and have made no provitions for back up power to the pump. The pump installer has not installed a fire pump ATS.

Am I correct in considering the utility as being the reliable source of power?

thanks

Reliable is in the judgment of the AHJ. Guidance is given in NFPA 20 Annex A A.9.3.2.

I had this issue in NJ and was informed that the utlities have thier own requirements to meet for a reliable source and that all the electric utilitiees in NJ qualified. The utility also said it was very difficult to find an electric utility that didn't qualify.
