A new dedicated service for a 125 HP Fire Pump at 480(460)V requires what ampacity Transocket?

The controller, supplied with the Fire Pump, is service entrance rated and includes a properly sized, Locked Rotor, overcurrent device. Conductors work out to be 3/0 and the overcurrent device works out to be 1000 amp.

I don't think the transocket is technically a disconnect, however, removing the meter will result in the Fire Pump being de-energized.

Is the transocket required to be 1000 amp rated?

Why couldn't the transcocket be 400 amp rated?

The easy way to look at fire pump services. Size everything the same as you would for any other motor installation except for the overcurrent protection. The overcurrent protection is set to be ground fault and short circuit protection only. Overload protection is provided by the fire pump controller. Article 695 is written around this concept.
