Here's the situation- A fire pump and it's controller are located in a room which houses only this equipment and the fire department wants this room to be fire sprinkled. Does the NEC allow, require or not allow the sprinkler system for this room? I don't know if there is anything in the IBC or IFC either way. Maybe someone can help or share your perspective as to whether it is a good or bad idea to

In the IBC, I know that at 903.3.1.1.1 Exempt Locations, it does state that "Sprinklers shall not be omitted from any room merely because it is damp, of fire-resistance-rated construction or contains electrical equipment."
Its important to know what sprinkler standard is in play. That would depend on what occupancy group and the level of hazard contemplated. The NFPA standard might be NFPA-13, NFPA13 D, NFPA13 R or others standards by other standards writing organizations. Check with your Building Official.

NFPA 13 for all sprinkler installations save for residential and domestic. You can also look in NFPA 20 (fire pumps) but I am almost positive that they are required for fire pump rooms. I think NFPA 20 would be a better bet. The Fire AHJ would also be a good person to talk to.
