Is there anything in the NEC that lets the Fire pump controller start the Emergency Generator on a test. I "ve seen it done that way on a college campus in two buildings, one was a Art building & the other a Law building. Most of the time the only way to test the Emerg. generator is at the generator & the fire pump controller won't start the generator.

The last fire pump install I did the fire pump controller was the transfer switch and controled the hole thing and you could run the gen from that controler.

I don't think there is anything in the NEC that would prohibit the fire pump controller from starting the generator for a test.

Many transfer switches have a program to test the generator every week. If the fire pump controller has a transfer switch, that would be a logical place to have an automatic test feature. Especially if this is the only transfer switch on the generator.
