Re: Fire Suppression Systems

Neito,

I'm assuming you're talking about a hood extinguishing system for a restaurant grille area. Peter is correct. The fire alarm system interface is first and foremost. However, there is a solenoid and switching mechanism on the tank of the suppression system that will give you several sets of contacts. One set of those contacts will be used for the fire alarm system interface, another set will be used to de-activate the exhaust fan and another to activate a "make-up" air fan. Check with the fire inspector in the area you are working and he should be able to guide you. If not, the company that is providing the suppression system should know the particulars.

If none of these are knowledgeable about this you can go to the AFAA website and subscribe to their code forum. They know everything. Many of the subscribers work for Simplex and other large fire alarm companies and they consider themselves "code weenies". I don't know how they hold down a job because they're on the internet constantly.

Re: Fire Suppression Systems

Neito,

I don't mean to throw a wrench into things but there's one other thing you should check into. Call your insurance company and make sure you are covered to do alarm work. When I first started out my agent told me that the insurance coverage was different for this type work and that the premiums are much higher. When alarm systems fail (irrespective of whose fault it was) lawyers like to use the "shotgun" approach when choosing who to sue.
