Fixture/ cord connected

For many years I have been of the opinion that if an electric discharge fixture was to be cord connected, unless it was a factory assembly, the cord had to terminate in an attachemnt plug. Currently this jurisdiction is under 2002 Code, so I reference 410.30(C).
It has been called to my attention that the wording of that section starts "shall be permitted to" and not "shall be".
In addition 400.7 & 400.8 do not seem prohibit a cord connection without an attachment plug on an electric discharge fixtre.
Comments appreciated.

If not, then a chapter 3 wiring method required.

I agree with RUWired.

Section 410.30(C) permits electric discharge luminaires to be cord connected if the conditions specified are met. If the conditions are not met then you must use a chapter 3 wiring method.

I agree also. This is one of the times you actually get to use a flexible cord in lieu of other fixed wiring methods.

You should finish reading that section. There's a couple of or's in there.
