Hi All.
I was wondering if anyone had a better way of replacing a light fixture, that has no box on a brick wall. I have, in the past cut a box into the brick. That’s a pain in the butt. i know guys use pancake boxes, surface mount. But because of box fill, I’m not sure that’s code. Unless the box is recessed and only 1 14-2 is going to it. Feel free to correct me. Thanks for the input.

It all depends on the fixture as to what kind of box I use.
"I have, in the past cut a box into the brick. That’s a pain in the butt."
As my father would say" if it was easy then anyone could do it.;).
Sorry I couldn't resist.

Didn't someone say (once upon a time) that the space in the fixture counts for 'box fill' space??

And someone did say, recently, that vinyl siding people have a bad habit of moving things around and skipping boxes because "it's easier."

I wonder if they should make and sell a flat box and use the fixture canopy as the fill. This way a flat box can be mounted and the fixture canopy can be counted as the box fill.
