Neither of you is correct. The zone starts from the top of the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold. Art. 410.10(D)I?m having a little trouble with a code interpretation, it concerns light fixtures over a bathtub area. I believe the eight foot zone starts at the overflow level and the local electricians say it begins at the drain, which is right in this case. Thanks in advance for the help.
Sorry Dennis....I was specifically addressing the bathtub scenario:wink:
First thanks for the help but when I read that code section it did not mention anything about can lights which I thought are not rated for wet or damp locations. Is this right or can they be installed in any manner that would make them rated for these areas.

It begins at the rim of the tub or the basically the high water mark.
That is two different heights.
