Flasher circuit

Soooo... I'm still working on my holiday lighting. Which consists solely of MR-16 landscape lighting with some colored filters. We're talking big bang for small bucks here, since it's lighting already there - just re-directed, and colored.... Some tasteful washes of red and green with silhouetted snowflakes...

Anyone got schematics for a flasher circuit by way of pennies on the dollar? (No 'Light o Rama' in my future...) Better yet a circuit to fade on and off (Slowly) at 12VAC under 50w load????

(All non-premis wiring - don't atempt at home kids)

I guess one of the trick flashers you put under the base of an incandescent lamp work work. They operate on 120 V and you would need to be creative with the wiring.

The simplest I can think of is a 12V DC wall wart, a double pole relay, and a capacitor. Capacitor goes across the relay coil, and the wall wart powers the relay through a NC contact. need a big cap (start with 4700uF) and a sensitive-ish relay. Much better would be a 555 based timer circuit, excepting the relay you would be under the dollar, google for 555 astable

Where could one get one of these "trick" 120 volt flashers?

As for the flasher circuit, I conjured up a system with a rectifier, transformer, Radio Shack relay and an auto turn signal flash unit.

I got one from Spencer's in the mall. A really trashy junk and trick store. There may be one at your mall. Or try a magic store, they typically have those kind of things.

Good luck

120V flashers should be readily available at any place that sells Christmas lights. Surely a good hardware store would have them.
