Has anyone used this stuff?
Whats the scoop on it?
There has to be a catch.
I have an application coming up where I need some magic to happen:D

I've torn it out, but never installed any. I do know that when a desk leg ends up over an overlap in the stuff for years, it can short out. It's normally installed under carpet tiles.

I've had to use the amp flat under carpet stuff in a gov bldg that (for whatever crazy reason) insists on it. It has its uses by I'm no fan of it, and it becomes really dangerous when guys come in after the fact and add plugs using listed "taps". However, in an office building designed for it with floor troughs and floor boxes, its not too bad.

At one time I installed 1000's of feet of the stuff. Had all the tools etc. Was ok with certain exceptions as Marc mentioned.

I installed some about 20 years ago. Horrible stuff back then. Don't know if it's any better now. After a few months you could see the lines in the carpet where it was run underneath.

Marc:

I will look BUT I think this guy that was doing excessive amounts of side work (and I let him go) took them. He was the main installer back then in this one building and I think he thought this would give him an edge. The building owner had decided to change wiring methods as the flat cable was expensive.

This is not the type of cable that the post is about but has anybody used the flat 3-wire nm cable? Some of my guys don't care for it.

If you are referring to something like 14-3 w/g yes. It seem easy to pull but if you set it up with regular 14-2 you have to watch what you grab. It looks and feels like 2 wire. Hard to tell the difference when doing a lot of fast pulling.

FCC cable. You talking about the stuff that is used at the large convention shows for commercial/industial tourism? If so, they run miles of it in Vegas. Know a thing, or two, about it.

At the shows, it gets used as a nice temp wiring under carpets at booths. Seen it in convention show set ups, but no where else.

The last project we thought about using this on, the data cables became a problem. I think each flat cable could only cary 6 data lines, and each data cable took a transision box at the wall. (The power cables also took a similar box).

If you only needed 6 cables, no problem. But if you need 50 desks, each with a phone and computer connection, you wound up with a wall that would look like swiss cheese.
