If a flexible cable is allowed to be spliced and repaired, why is not allowed to be reused in a different location after repair? Would this apply in a shipyard where temporary cables are moved to different locations often? Do we need to replace rather than repair? This is in Art.400.9.
 
That is what it means. If you splice and reuse or reinstall at a new location you cant have the splice in the cable or just cut it out and put another splice in. Depends on if you are actually reusing it or moving to a new location whats your application for it? I am having to replace 2/0 and 3/0 cable due to this.

Are these cables single conductors or multi-conductor cords? 400.9 only applies to cords. If the cables are single conductor, it does not apply.

The cables I was refering to are multi-conductor 4c / #2, 4c / 2/0 etc.. They are used to distibute 480 volts to various loads such as welders, lighting, utilities in a shipyard. They get damaged frequently and require splicing and repair. Art. 400 permits repair and splicing but seems to contradict itself when it states you can not reuse them or change location.
Looking for some clarification.
