where in the code does it say that you can't use nm-b(romex) for the connection of the dishwasher. i have seen this on many a manufactured home. i think that maybe the white book may address the issue. let me clarify that if is a direct connection, not to an outlet

Hvae you read:
550.15(b)
550.15(e)

(B) Nonmetallic Cable Protection. Nonmetallic cable located 380 mm (15 in.) or less above the floor, if exposed, shall be protected from physical damage by covering boards, guard strips, or raceways. Cable likely to be damaged by stowage shall be so protected in all cases.

(E) Installation Requirements. If a range, clothes dryer, or similar appliance is connected by metal-covered cable or flexible metal conduit, a length of not less than 900 mm (3 ft) of free cable or conduit shall be provided to permit moving the appliance. The cable or flexible metal conduit shall be secured to the wall. Type NM or Type SE cable shall not be used to connect a range or dryer. This shall not prohibit the use of Type NM or Type SE cable between the branch-circuit overcurrent-protective device and a junction box or range or dryer receptacle.

I don't see it the same way. Dishwashers are fixed in place where as a range or clothes dryer are not.
I have had inspecters want the NM-B to be strapped closer to the j-box then would be what I like.

I just asked if those sections were read ;) w/o adding any commentary or opinion of my own.

NM cable may be used to connect to the dishwasher. I have not seen anything in the code that says you can't do this. Almost every dishwasher in our area is wired in this fashion.

The newer fancier models come with their own cord and plug and get connected to a receptacle in the kitchen sink cabinet.
