Can someone kindly define section 350-5 (6) of the 1998 where it states Flexible Metal Conduit Uses Not Permitted - Underground or embeded in poured concrete or aggregate.

I have a project where the ELectrical Contractor forgot to install conduit within the cell space of a Concrete Masonry Wall and has now notched the face shell of the block and dry packed it into the face shell of the block. I've never seen this type of installation and feel that it may fall into the above mentioned code volation.

Your responses would be appreciated.

Do you mean they just knocked upen a cell column, shoved the flex in, and plan on just leaving it open that way?

If you opened up a whole cell column, why not just use EMT or RNC?

The Contractor notched the outside (Exposed surface) of the block face shell approximately 2" wide by approximately 1" deep. He inserted the Flexible Metal Steel Conduit into the notched area then dry packed around the conduit with a cementitious material. I've Never seen this done before and questioned wheather it complied with section 350-5 (6) of the electrical code.

If its above ground, and dry location might be OK if that grey gook isn't concrete. Might have used some of that structural steel insulation they blow onto trusses and such. That looks somewhat like cement.

I've never seen it done like this either...
