Am I incorrect that the main reason we use GFCIs in bathrooms is because of the water. Why not in floor receptcles. Do we not mop a hardwood floor or shampoo a carpet? I know we use a cover in floor recep situations, but outside receps have a cover, and we all know that the screw on cover will most likley never be used by the customer.

I can think of two possible reasons.

1) No one ever put in a proposal for this.

2) A proposal has been put in but there was no proof that the rule was needed.

You can put in a proposal for this, at this point it would be for the 2011 NEC.

It probably has more to do with the recept. being USED in a wet location...as opposed to the recep. getting wet while NOT in use.
