Floor receptacles in Exam Rooms

Is a metal floor box and conduit required in patient care areas? I would rather use PVC but I can't find anything in 2005 NEC to allow this, even if I pull two grounds.

Am I missing something, I hope.

I don't think there is any relief for this situation. Its required by the 2008 NEC 517.13 (A)(B)

As Lowrider states, there is no relief to 517.13(A).

As an aside, an EC in our area did this exact thing and we were called to perform the Equipotential testing, it was impossible to get a reading of the required less than .1 ohm, yet in rooms where metallic underground raceways are used it's never a problem, this shows how the metallic raceway and insulated EGC work together as one.

The installation was allowed due to the fact that the receptacles were for exercise machines only in a rehab area.

Dental chairs are sometimes roughed in with an oversized PVC in the slab as a sleeve, and HCFC pulled through that sleeve. I don't like that method simply because there's no good way to terminate the end of the HCFC in the floor box.

I thought it had to be metal and just went ahead and put a metal box and rigid pipe.
