I have a correctional institute that has outlets located in the floor. I believe it had a cover at one time to protect it from traffic and dirt but it has been removed. Is the cover required?

Re: Floor recepticle Protection

Yes. See 406.8(D).

Edit: Better still, see 314.27(C). That's the one I was looking for. :D

Re: Floor recepticle Protection

I am very confused. :D

I am not an instructor. Building steel grounding has nothing to do with floor receptacles. :D

I noticed your thread, I'll take a closer look at it.

Re: Floor recepticle Protection

What you need are new trims with hinged covers. The threaded covers are really only intended for places such as stores and offices where something is hooked up for prolonged periods of time and there is a maintenance supply room for storing the covers.

Re: Floor recepticle Protection

Art.314.27(C)Require that the boxes & covers shall be listed for the use. So depending on the location will determin if it needs to have the cover reinstalled. Keep in mind Art.110.3 If you replace the cover it will need to the proper cover that is listed to be used with that box.
