We were in a discussion today and the subject of ground placement on receptacles came up. This is one dead horse I don't want to beat again but I was told by an individual that Florida is enforcing a rule of grounds up. I am here in Virginia and it is a dead issue. All inspectors here say that it is not addressed in the code as to how receptacle grounds are placed, it is a matter of preference and or job specification. Is this true and if so was there an amendment to the NEC for the state of Florida? Just curious. :?:

After reading some of the posts on how things are inspected in Florida, it wouldn't surprise me if someone just decided that one way was better than the other and started enforcing it that way.

That is absolutely ridiculous and I think someone is either playing an April Fool's Joke on you or received horribly inaccurate information. Florida has no amendments to the 2002 NEC.

Florida gets blamed for everythinng yet it always comes from people from other states? :?:

I know that Florida wasn't doing this, but on all things that I am not sure of, I research my own answers to come up with my own conclusions. It kind of keeps me from sticking my foot in my mouth. This subject is on the same level as what came first the chicken or the egg? We all know that it was the rooster.

:D Well now I'll just have you know; I just returned from your State. I think there must be something in the air or water down there.

I had to move my in-laws back to MI. I'm on my way to pick them up to take to airport and get a call. They don't have papers from Dr. to get into assisted living home in MI. I change directions. Go to Dr's office for paperwork--this takes 35 min. As I leave Dr's office; another call. Now I have to go pick up prescription. I get to their apartment 30 minutes past time we were to leave. Now my wonderful Mother-in-law has not yet put 1 single item into a suitcase. She can't even comprehend why I am displeased (well okay, maybe P*****Off) would be better term.

Now you have to admit it must be something in air or water to cause a person to behave in such a manner.

Oh yeah and because I couldn't fit their possessions that they have to have in a 26' moving van; I'm a rotten SOB.

Well enough of my week in h***. oops that's Florida.

No more venting for now.

Have a great day guys! :D

There are more Master Code Professionals and Certified Building Officials in Florida than any other state in the nation.

Not that certification means everything, but is an indication that there is at least some level of competence present here.

There are over 18,000 homes built each month in the state of Florida. 1,500 people move to Florida each and every day. At any given time, there are over 300 schools being built. My office averages 10,000 inspections a month. With this level of production taking place, it is no wonder there are stories of screwed up inspections and wacky things going on. There is simply more opportunity for it to happen.

And there is no end in site for construction to even slow down.Help ,even green can't be found.Fl has its faults but there is plenty of work and i would rather be here than freezing my a$$ in the north.Mother inlaws are a promlem in every state and bet yours was from MI originally so dont blame Fl for her.

Without divulging personal information, what can a Florida master, journeyman, and apprentice expect to make? I recall discussions about FL's wages being low. With a labor shortage, have they gone up?

Based on past discussions, I'll stay here in the freezing north and make a respectable wage, thank you very much.

We have been forced to raise the rate for greenies. Not because they are worth it but because sometimes we simply must have help.
Living where one likes is what life is about.Cold weather is not something i care to work in.My wages are not as high as they are up north but i do live in a paid for home thats worth about $150k,eat good, drive nice cars, buy good beer, can go to beach all year long. :D 8) .Negative side of up north is the cold, high taxes, heating bills, days you cant work because you cant get out because of snow.I grew up in Pa and did work there till i was 25

How much is that bet? She was originally from Indiana, and I don't blame Florida for her. I was only trying to have a little fun. She has kind of been like that since I met her.

On weather conditions: I can dress for the cold. How do you dress for the heat? :p

My mother in law was from KY just across the river from Indiana.Had you said she was from there to start with i would understand her being slow at getting ready

Heat is no problem for me.Just plug in a big fan and give me plenty of gatoraid on ice or some arizona green 8) 8) 8)

Wrote a note to my mother in law when we went to visit her and she was not home.Dear mom i am writing this slow because i know you can't read fast --------------------------

 Jim, very funniy. Maybe you could do that for me too. I am kinda slow at times.
