Hi,

I have found requirements for state level exam's and requirements. Im having difficulty finding information on requirements for becoming a Registered Electrician. My counties would be Palm Beach and Broward.
Also looking for any exam's I would need to take if any.

For the Florida folks on here:
I have worked for a GC for a number of years, about 8, also attended an electronic tech school.
I could use the GC to my advantage and he could "help" me meet some of the requirements. I choose Registered as its easier to meet the qualifications as opposed to becoming state level certified.

Any info would be helpful... thanks

thanks. But I found that already. Im having a hard time finding info on registered electrician.

I'll keep looking...

Contact the two counties that you are looking at.

To be honest with you, if you are going into Palm Beach County, you might as well go for state certification.
There is not a whole lot of difference in the paperwork required.
In addition, you will have to get a reciprocal in the other county which just involves more paper shuffling.
If you can qualify for state certification, go to Mike Holt's bootcamp, take the test, and call it a day.
Good Luck
By the way, Go Red Sox!!

Spanish?? They reside in Miami and Lauderdale.... thats why its called "south" florida in that part. lol

thanks for the replies.

Problem is... the requirements are high, 4 years or 6 years of apprenticeship with an EC. Ive been with this GC for a while like I said, but how do I take that into my advantage? Will I have to get the GC to just "sign off" for me? I need to get licensed, weather its EC or ER doesnt matter.
You can PM me with any thoughts.

I found the local requirements to be much more than the state, such as holding a j-man for like 4 years to take a county master. You're better off going for the state exam, and as far as signing off, you need W-2s to correspond, but you could spin it depending on what line of work you've been in for the past 6 yrs. The application is no picnic either, takes a lot of work to complete the app. My advice is to get the app from myflorida.com and start attempting to fill it out.

With out letters from an EC verifying your experience you will have a hard time qualifying to sit for the exam, a GC will not make it.

Who has been pulling the electrical permits for the jobs you have worked on?

Roger

Roger- well you know how it goes. Its not who you are, but who you know... *cough* *cough*.

Anyway, work we do are remodels. Its all wired already. Maybe a few new circuits + or -. GC takes care of permits on his side. Since its not a new build, everything else is said to be old work. OR I just dont get questioned and life goes on and on to the next....

Been doing this for a while. EC's are around to call if needed.

They are getting tougher every day. It could take 1 year to get it done. The board only meets 4 times a year. Go for the state.

The GC cant pull permit for the electrical.Either he not permitting anything (very bad idea) or he is paying an EC friend to pull it.If your doing electrical work unlicensed without permit your facing some heavy fines and even prison. If your qualified then see if they will except who you been doing electrical for up north to prove the time.

I would not work in SE florida without a gun in my tool pouch.I hope you have researched that area as to crime rate.On bright side your now allowed to kill in FL
