Flourescent tie wire

I am in Florida without my code book and am in an argument with the General Contractors super about the amount of tie wres required. In South Carolina it is required by inspectors to have two tie wires per light on opposite corners. He is from Georgia and says his inspectors make them use for. Does'nt the code say two on opposite corners?

Agreed, this is a building code / seismic issue, it is not required in the NEC although 410.16 will be of interest.

410.36 Means of Support.
(A) Outlet Boxes. Outlet boxes or fittings installed as required by 314.23 and complying with the provisions of 314.27(A) and 314.27(B) shall be permitted to support luminaires.
(B) Suspended Ceilings. Framing members of suspended ceiling systems used to support luminaires shall be securely fastened to each other and shall be securely attached to the building structure at appropriate intervals. Luminaires shall be securely fastened to the ceiling framing member by mechanical means such as bolts, screws, or rivets. Listed clips identified for use with the type of ceiling framing member(s) and luminaire(s) shall also be permitted.

we have lost this fight several times with one of our contractors - a bid spec showed up with 4 tie wires on the luminarires and now these j/a think that is some sort of hurricane building code - we cant seem to get thru to them that it is a siesmic code - we quite fighting and add it to our planned cost

I will post these links for you and another member I just got off the phone with. But if you can find them quicker...

Aside from 410, you must comply with FBC 803.9.1.1 which leads you to ASTM C-636.2.7.2.

The later is a tough link to get so if one of you computer savy guy could hook us up, that would be cool.
