Fluke Multi meter

I have a digital multi meter, I believe I should get it seviced-calibrated, it is a 7 yr old fluke. How does one go about having that done locally? Fluke said they don't do service work.

You can get them calibrated, but unless you really need the calibration sticker, it may not be worth it. In my experience, the Fluke 70 and 80 series meters hardly drift at all; if you're curious, compare three or four digital meters. My 15 year old model 75 still matches the Keithly on the bench and the Tektronix scopes (and the other Flukes).

I'm with zbang, if you need to report your numbers and reference a calibration date, then it?s a pure necessity. But if your just interested if everything is OK, try comparing it to a friends. No sense wasting money on something that you may not need.

Where you located? look in the yellow pages. In Washington DC area alone there are 4 service shops I know of that do calibration. Pain in the tushie to send out and more expensive. We have a cal shop to our office once a year for 2 days to cal all test equipment.

Take 4- calibrated meters and compare and they are all different, but with in tolerances.

I would have my meter calibrated whether or not it is required.

Good morning all,
This is interesting, My 189 just crapped out yesterday. I had contact Fluke from there web site and they provided me with a return number and a three week lead time providing they have the spare parts because this meter is obsolete and has been replaced by the 789. I have purchased a new 189 that my supplier found in another state and I'm sending the old one off the be repaired. I was having inconsistancies with the red post for the leads and parts of the screen went south when I removed the cover. Most of your suppliers of Fluke products have a sales representitive who should be more than happy to assist you in getting their product repaired. If they don't remind them of their mission statement.

Jen,

In hometown of Anchorage, you may want to try Northern Electric. They are located on Chugach way right off Spenard road. Think they're on the left hand side before you cross Fish creek.

LHarrington,

The Fluke 789 and the 189 are different instruments that have some overlap. Can you tell me how you heard the 189 is obsolete? Assume there is a typo somewhere.

Thanks
